  • Hot Pour- Skin over

    Hey, everyone.

I have a couple hair styling products I am formulating. Formulas seem good in testing, however, once hot poured into final containers, they are skinning over. The skinning is creating issues with first application of the products.

One styling cream in particular seems to be the correct consistency under the top layer. But the top layer creates a waxy/clumping in one’s damp hair upon first application from container.

This is a carbomer/wax emulsion based cream.

I have only tested on smaller scale, but before going into production I was hoping for any advice on avoiding this issue.

For formulation questions, to get helpful answers you need to include either the entire formula or at least the list of ingredients.

what’s the setting temperature of the product, and what temperature are you filling it at?

You can reduce the final temperature of the product just before the pouring.
And you should provide uniform and even cooling environment for the product? Try refrigerator…
