  BHT

  I keep seeing BHT listed in the heated oil phase in several formulations.
  I know it doesn’t dissolve fast at room temperature, but isn’t a heated oil phase too close to its melting point? (70C) Won’t it chemically break down/decompose?

  Yes, a degradation should happen, reducing its function.

  I have worked with BHA, which was used for a shampoo.
  We add BHA at 40 C, at the end of the process. We use temperature just to speed up the solubility, after that the process is continued at RT. 
  What if you dissolve it in ethanol and add it at the end?

  BHA has a lower melting point (48-55C), so I guess I can heat BHT (70C) up to 60C or so?
  I only have isopropyl alcohol, but I see it’s (partly) soluble in IPA as well as ethanol (Making Cosmetics).

  I thought BHT was very soluble in ethanol. I should recheck this. 
  I guess, 60 C heated for a short time should be ok.
