some ingredients substitutes
hello everybody..
i’m a beginner formulator from sudan.. and many ingredients are not available here.. so I would like to know what suitable substitutes that I can use instead..
can I use vegetable oils or parrafin oil instead of macadamia oil? gum arabic instead of xanthan gum?
what can I use instead of dimethicone?thanks in advance..

Hello - Your question is a bit too vague and not specific enough which is why many people haven’t answered. Plus, you’ve got to give it some time. Most of the people on this forum are active during the week. There is no as much activity on the weekend.
For your question, yes you can probably substitute vegetable oil for macadamia oil, although Olive Oil would be a much better match.
Gum arabic may or may not work as a substitute for Xanthan gum. It depends on your system. Certainly, you could try it.
Use instead of dimethicone? What are you using the dimethicone for?

I didn’t weigh-in since in my experience these exercises where a Formula is substituted en masse are always a losing proposition. The changes tend to be sweeping and as such can greatly change the stability and properties of the product. It is usually best to start the Formulation from scratch with regionally available raw materials. This (and the differing regulatory status’s) is why I restrict my work to North America.

thanks for your response.. and sorry for inspecificity..for dimethicone I mean as emollient.. is lanoline a suitable substitute?

Still a losing proposition. Dimethicone is nowhere near lanolin.

If you won’t say what the formula is for and with an ingredients list how do you expect to get any help?
