You can get a decent scale for around $50 on EBay. Look for a US supplier. 0-2Kg in 0.1g increments. You can also find ones 0-3Kg with 0.1 accuracy.

With a 0.1g accuracy scales go even cheaper than $50, most likely $10-20

It is worth paying a bit more to get better features. For instance, an external power supply will save a lot of spending on batteries. And get something with a decent sized platform.

.1 gram resolution scales costing less than $50 are ok if you aren’t making more than a couple pounds of a product. and those cheap scales don’t deal with water or oils very well. they will burn out with a drop of water in them.

We use Arlyn Stainless steel scales. Of course they are very pricey. but you get what you pay for. we mostly work in pounds. I find .01 of a pound resolution adequate to do test batches. .001 is preferred. My best scale holds up to 100 pounds and has an accuracy of .001 of a pound. We also do mineral foundations and that scale is resolution of .001 gram and 2 pounds capacity. working with colors requires high accuracy. otherwise you will not get consistent batches.
