HOW TO KEEP HEAVIER OILS FROM SEPARATING IN OIL CLEANSER SOLUTION
im mixing
olive oil 60%
castor oil 20%
polysorbate 20%would like to blend effectively so the heavier oil doesnt settle at the bottom. appreciate your expertise and insight, thank you:)

Is this the complete formula? Are you adding any water?I think the oils and the polysorbate are separating because they are not miscible.
Which polysorbate are you using? PS80? If there isn’t an aqueous fraction, why add the polysorbate?
I am not sure this has helped at all. More information would be useful.

yes @Dr_Sara i am using polysorbate 80… sorry forgot to specify… this formula has been fine mostly… but then i added DAIKON extract which is an oily ingredient and i just noticed more seperation… just curious if there is a substance that helps heavier and lighter oils blend and stay blended?

Right on, @Pattsi . C12-15 alkyl benzoate: as I always say what CAN’T Finsolv TN do? I’ll also remind of the ‘ol lecithin trick. A little bit of lecithin and most lipids start to play well with one another and their co-surfactant. I’ll also continue @Dr_Sara train of thought: why employ a surfactant at all? Oil cleansers are just that: oil. Maybe add just 3% TWEEN 80 to help rinse off face (and clothes) and leave it at that.

Vegetable oils are not polar enough to mix with Polysorbates. I run quite a number of experiments with different oils and Polysorbates. The thing that works for sure is Alkyl Benzoate and Polysorbate 80. I have disagree on 3%, it will leave greasy after feel. 10% is a bit more pleasant, although I use 15%.

If you need a surfactant that works with a variety of oils it’s Cithrol 10 GTIS by Croda. Works equally good with mineral oil and veg oils. Although I prefer alkyl benzoate + Polysorbate 80 combo, because the latter is more gentle on eyes.

i’m not sure about alkyl benzoate + Polysorbate 80 combo is more gentle than Cithrol 10 GTIS. didn’t ran a comparison test but on the internet DIY blogs/posts use polysorbate 80 up to 20 i was like what? 20%?
