  • SPF 15 using only Zinc Oxide

    Hi All,

I am creating a SPF 15 product that will be eventually for the global market.
The customer wants to use only zinc oxide.

Any idea how much I need to use?

I was thinking about 20% Zinc Oxide should be just enough but as it will eventually need to be global makes it difficult!

They dont want any other SPF ingredients in there an no Titanium Dioxide.

    Please help!

This will be a natural formula, cream base.

    Cheers

there is no simple answer to this question: the SPF you’ll achieve in practise will depend not just on the level of zinc oxide in the product, but also on the product’s rheology and its ability to form an even, uniform film

start with Zinclear IM 50JJ Dow .I think all you need is about 15%, which can be added to oil phase for SPF 15 and if natural you are stuck with gums such as xanthan for rheology but should work.Water resistance will be main problem.
