  • Solubilizer for Zinc Ricinoleate

Can anyone please suggest some solubilizing agents which could dissolve Zinc Ricinoleate in water in either hot or cold process?

I’ve heard that some surfactants might help, but what are they, I am wondering….

I doubt there are any aqueous systems that will dissolve zinc ricinoleate that don’t result in its total decomposition. If there were, I’m sure it would have been done by now.

Zinc ricinoleate will dissolve in NaOH solution but it is completely decomposed into sodium zincate and sodium ricinoleate.

The folks just up the road from us make a solubilized Zinc Ricinoleate product:
Flexisorb OD-120ZnR - but this is for household cleaning, not personal care. This strongly suggest that the ingredients required to solubilize/stabilize it are much too harsh to use on skin.

@johnb : Thanks for pointing this out as now even I am being suspicious about its stability in 100% aqueous solution according to some other references….

@Bobzchemist : Yes, you are right. Surfactants with high content would be problematic.

Probably, instead of using it in aqueous solution, I have to find another way.. :/
