  • My Gel is coming out cloudy!

Posted by Anonymous on January 16, 2017 at 8:55 pm

Hi guys! so we have made several fairly large batches of this shave gel and have found problems with the clarity. it becomes cloudy. i have tried different ways of mixing everything. my thought is the problem is coming from not mixing the oils with the water properly. could this also be caused by the carbomer not mixing well with the water? thanks and hope to hear back from someone :)

Tocopheryl Acetate is oil soluble component, chuck it out.

The PEG-7 GC will go cloudy in water … and therefore, gel. Not sure about the hydrogenated castor oil but that may also. If you remove the tocopherol you won’t need these.

Yeah agreed on peg-7 gc, how i overlooked it!! Have been doing that pomade based on water and had to get rid of it as it was clouding the solution. Amigo Belassi bang on money here, but Peg-40 hco can be used to solubilize fragrance as I do it without issues.

The required HLB value of fragrance oils may also make a cloudy emulsion with PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil. You can try another solubilizer like Polysorbate 20

There has been no return of the initiator of the thread to give more details so it is pointless making any suggestions regarding a cure.

if you are looking for PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate that does not cloud in water, try Glycerox HE.
