Sulfates in Hair Products
I’m a hair stylist researching for my own professional knowledge sulfates in shampoos.
There’s a big debate in the hair industry about sulfates in shampoos and their effects on color treated hair. I have a few questions that I’d to ask.
*On some brands of shampoos the sulfate is listed as the 2nd ingredient and on others it’s listed more in the middle or towards the end. How much sulfate should be used in a shampoo? The more the sulfate, the more the damage it does?
*Instead of sulfate free products should I be looking at sulfate minimum? (do shampoos need sulfates but not a lot of it?)
*Are some sulfates better quality than others? If so which ones and why?
*Are there sulfates that are natural occurring?Thank you for your feed back! I know some of these questions are probably very simple. I’m not a chemists, but I do love researching ingredient information in my industry. I like to know what my ingredients are, what they do, why they need to be in a product, how much or how little needs to be in a product to be effective, and what ways they are produced. I’ve googled sulfates and I come up with the same ol’ same ol’ “explanation” in the hair world. I would like a more in depth view, but hopefully not completely over my head view.
I am very happy to be apart of this community on this site, and reading different forms (even if I can’t understand it all.)
