  • Need Help for the steps to making a MATTE liquid lipstick?

Posted by Anonymous on February 16, 2016 at 2:24 pm

I have the ingredients I need to make it, however, I’m a little confused on what to do with these chemicals and ingredients and how much of each I should test out first for a sample amount of lipstick. Someone help as best as you can? It would mean a lot! Here’s the ingredients

    INGREDIENTS:
Isododecane Synthetic Beeswax VP/Hexadecene Copolymer Octyldodecanol Cyclopentasiloxane C18-36 Acid Triglyceride Disteardimonium Hectorite Phenoxyethanol Alcohol denatured Ethylhexylglycerin MAY CONTAIN: ± D&C Red No.28 Aluminum Lake (CI 45410) FD&C Red No.40 Aluminum Lake (CI 16035) Titanium dioxide (CI 77891) FD&C Yellow No 5 Lake (CI 19140) Aluminum Oxide Red 6 Lake (CI 15850) D&C Red 27 Lake (CI 45410) FD&C Red 7 Calcium Lake (CI 15850:1) Iron Oxides (CI 77499) FD&C Blue No.1 Aluminum Lake (CI 42090)

**** please note I got these from a website but I am NOT using some of these ingredients I am replacing them! Thanks :)

As a professional chemist, I have to very strongly recommend that you do not do this at all.

Lipsticks (and mascaras) are the two color cosmetics where safety has to be paramount - lipsticks because they will be ingested, and mascaras because they could get in eyes. If you do not know what you’re doing, you could seriously harm yourself, or any others you give your lipstick to. Please, please leave this to the professionals.

I am asking how to do it so these things don’t happen. I’m asking for professionals help, I’ve already made Matte lipsticks and I’m aware of the safety issues, but I need to find out what it is in doing wrong because it isn’t drying properly so I’m trying this formula. I’m going to do it, but I need steps and if I don’t get a professionals help in going to just test it myself until o figure out the right combinations. But ty for caring.

    Here’s the problem.

I am a professional cosmetic chemist. If I (or any of the other professional chemists on this forum) tell you how to do this (especially since you clearly have no experience), and you hurt yourself or others following my instructions, you could sue me for damages, even if I just gave free advice. This would cost me money, and hurt my reputation, neither of which I can afford.
There are courses available for you to take, and books that you could read, that will help you with this. As much as I’d like to, I can’t help.

In addition, you are simplifying the process. This is an area where many trained Chemists would think twice going, since it really is one of the more difficult Formulations.

Probably best to hire a Consultant who works in this area. Not for a Beginner.
