Hello, I’ve been trying to copy some formulas and making them based only on the Loi, and having decent results, this forum has been of great help obviosly; but, there is this ingredient (ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate) that to my understanding, it works as a preservative for colors, and it’s present in formulas that don’t have any color, so: What is or are, other functions for this ingredient? Thanks.

I’m sorry I forgot to put what kind of products; and it’s about, hair gels, or shine serums for hair, or shine sprays for hair.

Thanks David, but it is for protecting hair or the product itself?, if it’s the second case, is it posible for the product(the ones that I mentioned) to degrade that much from uv rays? I mean, in one year or so?

David meant to say this ester is a UV filter for the hair itself, not the chemicals in your formula. That would require another UV absorber, such as benzophenone-1, -2 ..

I use this in a hair serum (silicone based with sml % natural oil) to keep it crystal clear as its packaged in a clear PET bottle. I did find without it the serum would go slightly hazy over time when left out in the sun & elements. I think it also kicks up the shine just a touch.
