Home Cosmetic Science Talk Formulating Skin Marketing issue

I’ve been able to successfully formulate a cream that contains 2% of glycyrrhizic acid without it separating. (Solubility of this substance is a real nightmare)

The question is this. Due to the fact that licorice is a sweetener, the cream tastes incredibly sweet. My wife tried it as a face cream and put it around her mouth and then was going “eurgh!” when she tasted it.
So do I have any kind of marketable product?

@Belassi I have seen some customers in Middle Eastern countries asking for such creams which are edible and can be used while performing certain tasks (your guess is a good as mine)  ;)

other than that no idea on marketing front

@Belassi: I’m confused-what’s the problem? Why is it an issue that it’s sweet? You’re not supposed to eat moisturizers (unless they are marketed for such purposes).

You could pretty much market anything but the question is, what would you claim that the product does?

I wouldn’t advertise the taste or that it’s an edible product but there are personal care products marketed that way.  e.g. this cotton candy lotion. https://www.simplyforlovers.com/product/Emotion-Lotion-Cotton-Candy-4-oz

Why your wife tried to taste it? It’s a face cream, not a yogurt…

Well, if you get it anywhere near the mouth …

It’s about 200 times sweeter than sugar. The licorice is supposed to offer whitening effects, it appears to act as an anti-androgen too.

@Belassi, what is the aroma like?

Is it possible to formulate with 2% of glycyrrhizic acid as a serum so that it used more sparingly and absorbs faster?

Perhaps, it’s less likely to come into contact that way?

There is no aroma. The acid is only soluble to 0.2% in water. 2% requires alcohol and the product becomes unstable because the alcohol evaporates out of the cream. I guess an airless delivery system would solve that, but I don’t want to go there. I will probably have to limit it to 0.2%
