  • Best Way to clean/sterilize formulating equipment (small scale)

I’ve been doing small-batch homemade stuff for a while now for personal and family use, i.e. balms & salves, oil blends, and lotions.  The tools I use are very basic - glass & metal bowls, measuring utensils, stick blender, basic kitchen stuff more or less.

So far, I’ve been cleaning them in the sink w/ dish soap & sponge, and treating the solid waxes & oils a bit like bacon grease so they don’t clog my pipes.  But as I think about starting to sell products to local shops, I’d like to get a bit more sophisticated about how I keep my tools clean.  I need to know they are “sterile” before making a batch!
Any suggestions/advice on good methods & products to sterilize equipment in a home setting?
    Thanks!

I think just making sure things are clean and dried after cleaning will serve you well.  Remember to clean you sponge too.  Stick it in the microwave if you want.  Aside from that if you want you can use rubbing alcohol.

Yes, you can first wash by hand with soap/water, then throw then in the dishwasher.  Finally, just dip in an 90% Isopropyl alcohol bath and let them air dry right before use.  Always wear gloves when making a batch.

Some dishwashers have a sterilization cycle, otherwise use the procedure Mark described.
