How to start making my own hair product?
I would like to create a hair product for *my* hair. As someone who does not have cosmetic science background, what is the best way to
start?Since I have different textures in my hair, I was thinking the best way to start was to somehow analyze my hair to see the exact
percentage of everything and how each texture absorbs and retains moisture.Also, is there any place in Chicago that would be able to do that for me? Thank you for your help!

Analyzing your hair will cost a great deal of money. You’d be much better off “analyzing” the performance of various commercial products on your hair first. Keep records, and figure out what works best on which sections of your hair. It’s possible to formulate a product that works well on all different types of hair, so don’t be suprised if you find one or two. @Perry has written some good blog posts describing how to evaluate hair products.

Thank you so much for the responses! I really appropriate you guys taking the time to respond. The goal is to make products for personal use, but the dream would be to market it and sell. it; at the moment it would just be for personal use. I know I am in way over my head, but thought I would at least put some feeler out.
I will definitely check out the swiftcraftymonkey’s blog. Thank you Bobzchemist for the advice on keeping records on products that I have used; that’s a good idea and I will do it.
