How to deal with aeration while working with ALS in a cleanser?
Posted by ChemWizard on November 28, 2013 at 7:09 pmWe have a ALS based cleanser, which is very aerated.
Any suggestion on fixing it on a Lab batch level and even in large scale production? Also, is heat required to disperse ALS and Betaine in a water based cleanser?
Thanks all and Have a Happy Thanksgiving holidays!

You can add easily ALS & CAPB into the water no need to heat.
In lab batch you can add CAPB in water and mix properly than you can add ALS slowly so aeration may be will come less.
In production also same procedure you can follow.
If you will give complete formulation I will send you the procedure if require.

I don’t understand, no matter how much the aeration is, if it is a single phase (aqueous) product, I am sure the aeration should go away. But without knowing the full formula ingredients it is very difficult to suggest.

Thanks Vjay and Miliiachemis on aeration tip.
I have around 35-40 % AlS, 8-10% CAPB, little bit of PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, and PEG 120 Methyl Glucose DioleateWhat ingredient shall help me give some viscosity here?
Also, its a low pH formula, would that matter with viscosity? -
Try using PEG 150 Distearate, it builds up good viscosity. Then there is Arlypon TT as well, a popular choice these days.

I am using both in our mass market product I am using PEG 150 distearate & In premium product I am using Arlypon TT because its costly compare to PEG 150 distearate.

Thanks all!
Do you think suggested thickeners would work at low pH (3.5-4) ?
-
think upto 5 it should be ok, below that you would have to use with carbopol aqua sf 1, still read literature for all 3 for the best choice.
-
But, I thought SF-1 need to be neutralized upto 6 for thickness? Kindly advise if I am mistaken!
-
@Millliachemist, actually Arylapon TT build viscosity and SF-1 broke down at that pH.
Would PEG 150 distearate be stable at all pH levels? -
Mentors,
With SF-1 and SF-2, after neutralization up to pH 6-7, is there a trick to reduce up to final pH of 3.5 without breaking the carbomers?
I have glycolic acid in formula which needs to be safely incorporated.
Any thoughts?
