@Perry
Do you know why they decided to drop the book business? I imagine this has left a lot of authors in the lurch
I wish someone would pick this up.

bettyearl, check out Point of Interest http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com/ Susan has a good comparison table for different preservatives, and also articles covering each one. She also explains the function of Vitamin E (reduction in oxidation of oils, ie. preventing rancidity) and how you can use it in your formulas. Great resource.

Heh, these keep popping up every few years. Consumers get enchanted by how they look in the tube (very pretty), but always get disappointed by how the glosses don’t look like anything very special when applied on the lips. Then these disappears, and a few years later they’re back.

I have so many mixed feelings right now.
On one hand, great, I’m very tired of seeing brands claiming to be natural when they’re not, or being perfectly content with their customers believing they are natural when they’re not.
On the other hand, this will only encourage fear in consumers, which is how ideas like natural is best came about to begin with. Furthermore, stuff like this is catnip for politicians looking to regulate the industry until nobody but the biggest players are left.

You should always use preservatives. The risk of not using them and someone getting seriously hurt is simply too high.

This is fascinating. Manganese getting leeched out of the steel, maybe? Either way, beautiful color, though probably not safe for use.

You might not have to thin it at all to get the layer you want. You can buy some online without much trouble. INCI is Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, which should help you find it. Best of luck!
