Beginning formulatorJune 6, 2024 at 1:17 pm in reply to: How to work with Bakuchiol, alpha arbutin and kojic acidI’ll throw my 2 cents here. I agree with Perry’s suggested study of 100 people. I respectfully disagree with Perry’s claims that Bakuchiol is just a marketing scheme. Yes there are bakuchiols out there that are so diluted that’s not effective, however the real thing is oil soluble.
I formulate with Bakuchiol from Sytheon, it’s 99% concentrated, I use 2% in my formulation. If you use it directly on your skin, it will burn and you’ll get mild skin burn.
Here’s the Chemical name: Phenol, 4- [(1E, 3S)-3-ethenyl-3, 7 -dimethyl-1,6-octadienyl]
I have been using this Bakuchiol in a face oil and yes, I see a difference: Softer fine lines and faded acne scars. Obviously, it is not as powerful as prescription retinol, but it definitely does more than a moisturizer.

BASF sells it. I’m getting ready to place an order for Cetiol C5. Their MOQ is 10KG, I can sell you some of my stock. Msg me if you’re still interested.

For the Body Wash, they’re only listing the active ingredients. Is that all that’s on the label? There’s no way these are all the ingredients!

Beginning formulatorMay 4, 2023 at 12:25 pm in reply to: Is 1% of water ok without preservatives? In my case I want to use honey. Since honey is not oil soluble, I dissolved it in 1% of water, added a solubilizer, then incorporated into a sugar and oil scrub. I’m keeping the sample for 3 months to see if any micro-organism grows and testing it periodically.
