Hi all just reviving my thread..its been a while since I made the rice lotion, noticed a decrease in my skin “glow”… trying to use a new ingredient, xylitol, it feels lovely, tried it with dimethicone and my lotion didn’t thicken but it feels really nice. havent tried it with rice. anyone else using it or know of a potential reaction if i use xylitol with rice starch or is that just too much food.i also just found this gem of a study, which brought me here…. but it talks of a vapor phase which isnt adding the oil into the blend, is it? michelia alba oil prolonging brown rice storage 4 fold. made a fragrance blend earlier using a mix of naturals and aroma chemicals and it smells divine, with a few drops of michelia alba oil, and searched for any aromatherapy studies on the oil and found this i got really excited and thought would share right away before even reading the first paragraph!
Antifungal activity of Michelia alba oil in the vapor phase and the synergistic effect of major essential oil components against Aspergillus flavus on brown rice

Thanks Belassi! I really appreciate your voice in the forums.Making the rice lotion again because I noticed a decrease in my skins glow since I stopped using this. Been using my other experiments which are pretty good too, but this ones the best for my face.

ive just re-tested one from sept 15 in a well sealed glass container with pump, only .10 germall plus powder, and it has retained its freshness and still smells of the mild rice pudding faintly cinnamon like scent. yaythe other ones i made were in travel bottles and not sealed well/not airtight, so .20 preservative worked better, but they still lost freshness and it affected its delicate and mild natural scent.

MemberNovember 13, 2018 at 10:41 pm in reply to: Please improve my hair conditioner lotion recipethanks very much for the comments and suggestions and advice everyone, in time i’ll look into these mentioned ingredients i currently don’t haveremade this conditioner a week ago and replaced the cetyl with cetostearyl, added water to 90 grams instead of 80, added more ethanol to 10 grams. The texture is more like how i wanted it, more watery. The cetostearyl alcohol I have is supposed to be the 50:50 ratio, so yes thanks chemicalmatt it is much softer with the less cetylI appreciate how the waxes and oil dissolved in this hair conditioner preparation, the texture is great. makes me want to buy IPM for sure. -

MemberOctober 24, 2018 at 2:03 am in reply to: Please improve my hair conditioner lotion recipei want to change the cetyl alchol to cetostearyl alcohol (50:50 ratio)since i’m almost finished my little bottle i’ll reformulate and follow the advice such as: adding more water as
described above and reducing the oil. honestly its not oily on my hair
when rinsed off, but do you think the 8 grams of oil is wasted?(dont have the chlorides so i cant add those to my formula)it also works really well as a leave in (really small amount on wet hair worked very well) -

MemberOctober 24, 2018 at 1:59 am in reply to: Please improve my hair conditioner lotion recipei have added water to the conditioner and it became more watery as expected.almost too watery (not slippery) but the scent was still very nice and soft.i noticed some strands of my hair (5-10) started falling out so i stopped using it directly on my scalp. i want 0 strands of hair falling out.1.5% of oil? its so little. im not sure what the percentage of the oil is in the “hot six hair and body mist” i am using as oil in this formula.the fruit acid comes supplied at pH 4. it is a mixture of different sugars and fruit extracts in water from lotion crafter.i am using the mini shear mixer from their website.do you think i used too much polysorbate 80? i dont have ceteareth-20. and what about the PEG 400? has anyone tried this ingredient topically? (its vape liquid)not sure why my hairs are falling out when i use too much of the conditioner or leave it on my scalp (its supposed to be a scalp treatment) -

MemberOctober 2, 2018 at 3:12 am in reply to: Please improve my hair conditioner lotion recipeI dont think this is cationic. Can you tell by the ingredients?I have little experience with these terms and ingredients (no idea)My concept here was the fruit acid lowers the pH which would seal the hair shaft, the baobab oil and the MCT being very attracted to hair to condition the hair, and the hot 6 oil is already for hair and has a bit of silicone (to make hair shiny and slippery) but i read this silicone evaporates. so im not sure why my hair feels So Slippery and So Soft aside from the hot 6 oil.I am also using an essential oil blend with rosemary, peppermint, and eucalyptus blue for my scalp.I will have to try it with more water and see how it works.I really want the conditioner to be more watery and liquidy.I cant stop touching my hair! It feels great! -

MemberAugust 28, 2018 at 3:07 pm in reply to: To be or not to be? Essential Oils in skincarenice thread.i personally do not like the smell of almost all the lavender eo i have ever smelled. it kind of gave me a smile thinking about how awful it is, it even ruins formulas.some citrus essential oils are phototoxic when applied neatthere are loads of studies regarding essential oils and their efficacytry researchgate, nhci, or any peer reviewed database of articles- i usually use the most technical terms and add the word “study” at the end of my search and find all the published articles i need regarding essential oils and how effective they are at signaling, or direct mechanism for topical application. but smelling stuff is a subtle science and a different beast. natural oils never give me a headache but fragrance oils will, as well as a skin allergy. the only essential oil that gave me an allergy was sweet birch and that was with constant application of a strong dilution on my arm. -
cool!learned a new term today…made it again couple times since, but always as a last minute thought when making riceargh!so, havent used distilled water. or a measured method. one was better than the others (not sticky at all) but it was the one that i didnt note the measurements of the different oils i used as well. of course.its so great with b3.any thoughts on preservation?

I forgot to say I also added 4% humectants, botanical extract 1:1 in glycerine at 2% plus 2% aloe veraWas it the glycerine and aloe that makes it slightly tacky?
