@pharma thanks so much for clearing that up for me! I was also wondering if I could make my own broad spectrum preservative system using an antimicrobial (such as aspen tree bark extract), an antibacterial (such as ROE), and an anti fungal such as sorbic acid or something. or if I should just buy a premed preservative system? thanks for the help!

I never actually made up my percentages yet although I’m working on it right now. I actually found that id rather use tapioca starch instead of arrowroot powder since I’m using water and am assuming it should be added to the water phase before mixed with the oils, not sure about that though if you know let me know! Rosemary extract oleoresin is ROE that I would use for antioxidant properties!

I was wondering if there were any good broad spectrum preservatives that could be recommended. I have heard that phenoxyethanol is a great one but unfortunately I’ve used it in the past and have had adverse reactions to it. I have read some conflicting articles and am wondering if 1,2 Hexanediol would be a broad spectrum or if I should mix it with other things. Any suggestions help thank you!

@Belassi thanks for the info! What preservative would you recommend according to what you have used?
-
@Perry hello! Yeah I streamlined my real ingredients list a lot from that initial one only including Shea butter, sweet almond, squalane, argan , and jojoba oils. For right now I guess I’m just trying to make an recipe with things that I know work for my skin and have good benefits. Don’t know very much so I guess I’m just making it up as I go along. Any suggestions help!

@ngarayeva001wow thank you so much for this info I was kind of suspicious about buying ingredients off amazon especially active ones like that but didn’t know where else to buy these from
-
@pharma for some reason I guess I just assumed that sodium animate was broad spectrum and could do the trick by itself. Thanks so much for the help though!
-
@EVchem I just like up the prices for sodium levulinate and unfortunately the price is a little steep for me at the moment, would there be any substitutions you could suggest?
-
recipe includes:
-Shea butter
-rosemary extract oleoresin
-argan oil
-squalane oil
-arrowroot powder -
@ngarayeva001 also I couldn’t find on google if there are any possible adverse reactions between bisabolol and any other ingredients, are there any known reactions? I was also looking to add green tea into the moisturizer.
-
hello @ngarayeva001! I found a listing on amazon for “pure gold alpha bisabolol essential oil, 100% natural undiluted, 10ml.” and was wondering that would be a good option to include in my recipe? Also thank you so much for the great recommendation! Sorry if it seems like a dumb question lol I just like to make sure.
-
current ingredients for the cream would be
-shea butter
-rosemary extract oleoresin
-argan oil cold pressed
-squalane oil cold pressed -
okay so ill skip the matcha powder, niacinimide, HA, and sodium anisate. thank you so much for your help!! @Pharma @alchemist01
-
@Pharma I got rosemary oleoresin extract which I looked up and it says it’s oil soluble I’m hoping that will work too. @alchemist01
-
@ngarayeva001 would it be good idea to switch out hyaluronic acid for niacinimide or should I just keep it anhydrous?
-
@ngarayeva001 is that not good? should I not be adding hyaluronic acid? is there an ingredient in my list that doesn’t mesh well with it?
