First of all, congrats for the site, it is plenty of good material and aids for formulating , good job! 

I will mention just 3 points that come to my mind for this particular case :

• The requested functionality (formula comparation) is not even implemented in the Excel attached, so, for sure it is easier to learn how to use a software application than struggling with implementation in Excel.

•  Even if somebody has implemented it for you, Excel is more “duplication” error prone. If you enter incorrectly a substance doing a typo like “Soudium” , Excel is not smart enough to know that you are referrering the same substance and the comparation will not be correct.

• Excel programation fall short with advanced functionality. For instance, if one of the substance in a formula comes, in turn, from another formula, it will be a pain to have the cost of that line automatically calculated in Excel. 

I dont want to bore you with technical jargon , but there are many others benefits (huge amount of data management, integration with third part systems…)

It is just…better.
