If you want to thicken a cream why not just use cetyl alcohol or something similar?
-
Gustavo, it really depends on what you want to do. Have a look at this website. I buy some waxes from them and they have a decent amount of info on their website.

I would say based on the info you provided your first problem is going to be getting you TT oil solubilized. You don’t say how much but you did say <10%. Depending on how much less you are going to need a lot of surfactant or other items, not a small amount.

It’s strange, at 2% beautful white lotion that I have sitting in a jar since 7/2013 still white.
At 4% as soon as you add the hydroquinone it separates. Here is list of ingredients in other 4% product:
Tri-Luma
Inactive:
butylated hydroxytoluene, cetyl alcohol, citric acid, glycerin, glyceryl
stearate, magnesium aluminum silicate, methyl gluceth-10, methylparaben, PEG-100
stearate, propylparaben, purified water, sodium metabisulfite, stearic acid,
and stearyl alcohol.This really has me stumped. I can’t even get 4% and the customer wants a 5%, 10% & 15%

MemberMarch 18, 2014 at 2:05 pm in reply to: Deodarant stick filling/formulation suggestionsThanks guys. Do you think the Sodium stearate by itself is going to give me a solid stick formula?
The link (if I did it correctly) will show the type of stick I have to use. It contains a wax product we filled for the customer but now they want a water based stick to put peptides into. We fill it from the back open end.

What is your end product? What else is in your formula? Salicylic Acid is finicky sometimes. Need more info to help you.

There was someone on here recently asking about that I think??

Just be aware that high concentrations of ascorbic acid will turn your serum yellow/brown after a few short months. Also the more you use the more the product will have a sticky feel while it is drying. That being said, 15% to 20% is very common.

That’s crazy. How do we know if you need a kettle at all unless we know if you have to heat your batch first?
Secondly, if you do need heat get yourself a 5 gallon stock pot and another smaller one depending an the size of your oil phase. Also 2 hot plates of some kind. Doesn’t have to be a lab hot plate, any kind will do. Then use the hot plates to heat your oil and water phase. Depending on the mixer you have you may want to make 3 gallons or so to get a good mix.

The BTMS 50 will actually feel good on the skin, try it. Try 2 to 4%

I don’t know of anyone. Just keep reaching out to people and be open to ANY position in a lab to get your foot in the door. You may want to contact ICMAD (Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers & Distributors) and try to see who their members are and contact them. Maybe they even have a special rate for recent grads to join.
Also look at the advertising section of magazines such as HAPPI or GCI (Global Cosmetic Industry) or others. Then call the manufacturers who advertise. Everyone who tells you no, as them “who do you know that may need someone”. Best of luck.

Stearic acid will work in creams and lotions, not so sure about shampoo. You can use EGDS (ethoxydiglycol) don’t think this is very natural but not sure.
Thickening I would use the salt. Most likely getting shampoo in your eyes even without salt is going to be irritating. You can try some of the carbopol products like Aqua SF.

@Bobzchemist I didn’t realize we were neighbors. When you going to work on the cleaning project for me?

What Chemicalmatt said. You need other solubilizers. As a manufacturer I have customers asking me for all sorts of crazy peels lately including high Sal. Acid
