Has anyone had experience in formulating with CBD? Anything we should take into account (besides regulations)?

I doubt 4% TEA stearate can emulsify 5% olive oil and 2% cetyl alcohol.@ngarayeva001 this is was just an example, not a real formula.
@Microformulation thanks for the tips! not a real formula… the main question was just the process..

Also… found this great article too.

Several older posts that might have solved my problem… I’ll update with what I did in the lab to help others. Thanks!

@ngarayeva001 Thank you for the kind reply. It is balling up when applied and not in its sample jar. When applied to the skin it seems to spread great but then when more friction is applied it starts to get tacky and ball up like wet dough trying to get off your hands. Thank you!

@gld010 I apologize I thought that it might be a common issue, and didn’t need to provide a full formula. I’ll fiddle around with it and see if I can’t find the cause. Thanks for the response!

@Lainee what is the name of the beads? can you contact the distributor for technical info? The beads might be hardening due to the alcohol, are they hard in a regular hand soap?

Lonza should has a few options for that or oil-soluble paraben?

Actually had some success using your tips, thank you. I just increased my sheer and mixing time with my lab homogenizer. We don’t have a hegman gauge so I can’t get any number from our plant mill. But since this is just a lab project I don’t have to worry about that for now.
-
@Bobzchemist Thanks for the tips. Just to clarify I am using something like this and not a kitchen-aid stick blender.
https://homogenizers.net/products/d500-homogenizer?nosto=productpage-nosto-1
Is this still not enough sheer? We have a huge colloid mill but not for lab batches.
-
@Bobzchemist hey thanks for the reply. I am just doing lab samples right now using lab stick homogenizer. I’ll look into agglomeration. Anything you can think of to help with that issue? Thanks

@Microformulation
thanks for the info, i am aware and i am fully compliant with all otc requirements. -
@Microformulation thanks ill look at that book. I had been attempting a petrolatum paste with ZnO at 20% with calamine. Looks smooth until it cools and then it seems gritty.

Penetrometry Measurements yes. thank you

if you want to scale up to 300-3000gal batches I can put you in contact with someone as well! we also do formulation/dev/packaging/stability etc etc etc. OTC and Cos.

im guessing this will be hazy. make it and see what happens. If its just a ‘shake before use’ i think it’ll be fine. i dont see anything sticking out that would be an issue. im pretty sure HA doesnt react with citric.

I was also going off of the OPs formula trying to help OP out. If he wanted to reformulate I’d be glad to provide a better formula.
