how do you explain that at trace amounts well below 1 PPM of Prop 65 chemicals (0.005 PPM perhaps) do not present a significant exposure or health risk to a regulatory person?

Ok folks up!!! I used Ultrez20 and a little tweak here and there and it came out really cool. I did put it in the 55C oven last night and it did not suspend the glitter. I am going to do the 40C overn over the weekend. But over all I am very happy with the results. What is the expectation on suspending the mica?

At least you are trying to seek information to help your cause. There are lots of people that try to pass themselves off as experts because they know how to “google” some on the internet and think that is the gospel. At least here on this site you will get honest and factual opinions and a pathway to move forward with enlightenment. There are people that trying to make folks feel stupid for asking a question. If didn’t ask the “stupid” question then you won’t have the knowledge and you will still be stuck or enlightened.

@Microformulation Thank you so much! I have learned alot from already..I assume it the “finer details” that I am looking for that come from experience that I am curious about. I have looked up the chems.
The reason why I asked the question about alcohol is I was told that if you have less than 30% water the need for a preservative is minimal. I am sure there may be different schools of thought on this…that is why i asked.
It wouldn’t hurt if my pH was a little higher than 5?
-
@Microformulation that is cool!!!
Instead of using the Aqua SF-1 I was going to use Ultrez 20 and neutralize with NaOH.I am assuming you are using more alcohol to avoid using a preservative?
Do you mind me asking what is you final pH range?
When the packaging from BBW says “diamond dust” what exactly is that? I understand a mica or glitter but is that indicative of a particle size that won’t clog the sprayer?

How long should shimmer be expected to stay suspended? Should a better sprayer be used to keep the fine mist of the spray?
-
what percentage of salt should I try -0.5%
-
This is a similiar issue I am having. I like the idea of trying salt to reduce the viscosity.

Making a body mist spray. Just not sure how I should have the order of ingredients. I know this doesn’t equal 100%. I just want to know what is the best order of addition.
Water-26.8%
carbomer 7.5%
PG 2.0%
NaOH-0.75%
Alcohol -50%
shimmer and extracts. -

Good Morning to all,
@Chemist77- I know the specifically mention octyldodecanol as a solvent. I am using what I have available to me. I got super bold and did 10% of ethocel it dissolved in the oil mixture at 80C nicely. I added IPM and crodamol CTS. I let is sit over the weekend and I had a seriously solid gel when I came in to work. I plan to do it over with much less ethocel. I want to try the HPMC also. Thanks! -
@chemist77 I have the ethocel (yeah) should I add about 3.5-4% of ethocel to my oil mixture? What temperature?
-
Hello @Bill_Toge If I had HCO or Peg-40HCO to an oil mixture it will thicken it. Would it be able to suspend beads from your experience?
-
@Chemist77 No I haven’t tried it. Thank you for the suggestion. I am trying to use what I have in house. I am ordering the ethocel. would methocel do the trick also? I am also trying to suspend beads.
-
I am using Sipernat 500 LS. Particle size 10.5 µm. I am looking for something to just thicken and not have an exfoliation feature. Should I add glycerin or maybe thicken in with Xantham gum?
-
@Perry thanks for the information! I was not aware of this!
-
Thank you for the help!
-
@Microformulation Thank you so much. sometimes the basic things can be the most confusing to me.
So the water to alcohol ratio would be something like 80:10? So the PG is not really needed?
-
mikrokill is Phenoxyethanol (and) Chlorphenesin (and) Caprylyl Glycol and its broad spectrum. now this product will be used in the intimate areas. so you don’t think it needs to be broad spectrum? I am using sepimax zen as my thickener.
-
Now my issue using phenoxyethanol only for a preservative is because it is not broad spectrum. Would mikrokill be a better choice? I am going to try phenoxy ethanol alone.
