  • Zinc Ricinoleate in water/propanediol deodorant stick

    Posted by waterphase on April 9, 2018 at 1:22 pm

    Greetings everyone,

    I have been making a basic water/propanediol/sodium stearate and Triethyl Citrate deodorant stick. It works OK but the protection lasts less than 24 hours.

    I would like to try incorporating Zinc Ricinoleate but since there are no oils in my formula, I am wondering how to dissolve it.

    I am obviously not a chemist so I humbly come to you hoping you might be able to provide some useful guidance.

    For example, in the formula below from Jason, which ingredient/s are making the addition of zinc ricinoleate possible?

    Ingredients: Propanediol, Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Sodium Stearate, Zinc Ricinoleate, Polyglyceryl-3 Caprate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Allantoin, Behenyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Silica, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sucrose Cocoate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Benzyl Benzoate , Hexyl Cinnamal, Fragrance (Parfum)

    Many thanks in advance!

    Anybody? Apparently there is a product called Polyfix ZRC 25 GP which is a water soluble zinc ricinoleate but I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

    The JASON product likely using the Sucrose Cocoate to suspend it or the Polyglyceryl-3 Caprate or the Glyceryl Stearate or probably a blend of them all.

    @waterphase
    yep i’ve used Polyfix XRC 25GP and it is incredibly easy to use. the only thing you have to keep in mind when using this product is with any compounds that have -N or -S in them as that is how Zinc Ricinoleate works. This includes your fragrance.

    your ingredients list looks fine

    Many thanks Perry and Billichemist. Since I posted this I managed to pre-dissolve the zinc ricinoleate first separately in the propanediol.

    Great feedback regarding Polyfix XRC 25GP Billichemist. Thanks! I’d love to try it but I am struggling to find a supplier that would sell small quantities here in the UK. Apologies but I don’t quite understand what you mean by the interaction between -N/-S products and the zinc. I’d be grateful if you could expand a bit.

    Thanks again!
