I’m wondering if essential oil will solubilize in a solution of sodium cocoyl isethionate and coco betaine.

I’d like to add that when I add EO to the solution, there is no visible seperation. I want to be sure, however that I don’t have to include an additional solubilizer such as Polysorbate 20.

You have to try it and see. Not all EOs are the same and not all formulas are the same.

Is there a way to test whether or not an EO has been fully dispersed from home or would I have to send it in to a lab?

Usually, if the system is clear, the EO has been fully dispersed. If it’s not clear, it’s not dispersed.

The most common issues you will face, if like Perry says your system is clear, are rheology and oxidation. There are two things that will give you more certainty, the HLB system and a stability test. Won’t be strange to find your product turns brown in a month.

    Hi DAS,

I am making a self tanner.  The product is amazing but loses it’s beautiful pink color after a while.  It turns brown.  I am using a Campo oil based natural colorant.  I have Coco Betain at 2% and Decyl Glucoside at 4% for foam because this will go in a foaming bottle. I am using a phytoscent in Sun Flower oil at 1% and the Campo coloring is .25%.  These are the only two oils in the product.

Do you have any idea what could be making it turn brown?  I tried a chelator but it didn’t seen to help.
