Hi there! I saw a product today (it is marketed as a cream mask it is a very thick and creamy emulsion) and i noticed the ’emulsifying system’ was just cetearal alcohol and probably ‘phosolipids’

does anyone know what these phospolipids are? are they lechitin??

aqua (purified water), daucus carota sativa (carrot oil), persea gratissima (avocado oil), cetearyl alcohol (plant derived), ginkgo bilobae (ginkgo biloba leaf extract), centella asiatica (gotu kola), equisetum arvense (wild grown horsetail), hypericum perforatum (st johns wort), phospholipids, citrus grandis (grapefruit seed extract), tocopherol (vitamin E), cymbopogon martini (palmarosa), pelargonium graveolens (geranium), anthemis nobilus (roman chamomile), citrus aurantium (neroli)

The cetearyl alcohol is an emulsifier.

Phospholipids are just one component of lecithin. They make good, if pricy, emulsifiers:

@belassi ahh.. isn’t it a co-emulsifier and cannot be used as a single emulsifier alone? I have been doing that using cetyl alcohol as a primary emulsifier and my creams arent amazing..

@bobzchemist Ah yes. i have been looking at that! they are very expensive..

The combination of cetearyl alcohol and the lecithin phospholipids would form an excellent emulsifier. Lecithin are brilliant emulsifiers. I use them in home-made liposomes.
