Hello Chemist friends! Allow me to share a little brainstorming topic: Suncare emulsions and freeze and thaw 🙂 I am noticing that my product separates (oils/filters separated from the rest) during FT but at constant temperatures of 25ºC and 40ºC, remains intact during stability for 3M, 6M, and even 12M. I am trying to understand if my FT protocol should be adjusted to suncare emulsions but I am not finding consistent information. Have you encountered any issues during FT for sunscreen formulations?

Affirmative, if your formulation is an invert system such as w/o or w/Si then you’ll see that separation. All of these invert emulsions are intrinsically unstable at elevated or reduced temperature conditions. I’ve had many that were stable for many years at RT though.
