    Hi All,

I am having difficulty stabilising a hair milk using quaterniums. In particular Quaternium-6.
Without it the formula seems to be stable…

    Water to 100%
Microcrystalline Cellulose & Cellulose gum & Xanthan gum - 0.5%

    oils (vegetable) - 6%
emulsifier emulium melifera MB (Polyglyceryl-6 Distearate (and) Jojoba Esters (and) Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax (and) Cetyl Alcohol) - 1.8%

Preservative - Benzyl Alcohol, Dehydroacetic Acid - 0.75%

Anything that I can add to help stabilise quats? Not allowed to use PEGs unfortunately. Or any emulsifiers which are natural an may be more effective?

    Thanks

xanthan gum and cellulose gum are both anionic, so they’re inherently incompatible with quats: the quickest and easiest solution would be to use a different thickener

    Hi Bill
Ok great thanks I didnt know that they were incompatible with quats! Thanks for that. I added them thinking they were stabilising the product.
    Thanks again

Hi Bill, could you advise which one to use, please?
