Self-Emulsifying Facial Cleansing Oil
I have been formulating a facial cleansing oil that emulsifies with water to be easily rinsed off the face.
So far, I have used Durosoft SF (polyglyceryl 4 oleate) and was not very happy with my cleansing oil because I felt it didn’t rinse nicely off the skin. I should note here that I included the Durosoft SF at the correct inclusion. I then read, on this forum, that esters perform much better in a facial cleansing oil, than just carrier oils alone and a combination of esters and carrier oils is best in a facial cleansing oil. I have seen that some similar products contain shea butter ethyl esters so I’m looking to source this. I’m also looking into glyceryl oleate which is also an ester. My first question is am I right in assuming that either the shea butter ethyl ester or the glyceryl oleate can be used in my product to enhance the emulsification for a nice clean rinse off?
My second question is, I have seen similar facial cleansing oils and balms that use coco glucoside + an ester (without the Durosoft SF) to carry out the emulsification process. I’m just wondering what would be the advantages and disadvantages of using coco glucoside in my product. This may be obvious, i.e. price, but I’m curious if there is any science reason.
Thank you if you have taken the time to read this lengthy post of mine. I appreciate it.
