    Hello everyone,

I am formulating a clear product with a resin and 2 hydrophilic silicones. If I add glycerin to the formulation it is hazy but if I add monopropylene glycol the formulation gets clear after certain dosage. Does a small difference in refractive indices can produce such an effect?
RI of glycerol is 1.473 while that of MPG is 1.431
Or is it something else like the interaction of glycerin with the silicones in different manner.

    thank you

Interesting question, but I wouldn’t put to much weight on refractive indexes in this case. There may be a correlation since refractive index is correlated to polarity which in turn is correlated to solubility which is correlated to transparency but hmm it is kind of complicated. I am a bit on thin ice here maybe somebody can fill in.
