question about emulsifier for hair wax

hello every one and thank you for your help

apprentice formulator here, i want to understand this formulation. i’m trying to duplicate a hair wax formula, the problem is, i don’t understand why there is so much emulsifier. i checked multiple formulas to be sur and they all have something like 20% emulsifier, heres an exemple, this one have 23%

Water (aqua) (deionized)	to 100
Propylene glycol	10.00
Sorbitol	7.00

Mineral oil (Paraffinum liquidum)	12.00
Sensolene Care DD (Hallstar Italia) (Lauryl olivate)	3.00
Steareth-20	20.00
Steareth-2	3.00
Polyquaternium-37, propylene glycol dicaprylate/dicaprate, PPG-1 trideceth-6	2.50
BHT	0.10

why so much emulsifier ?

@capsys the high level is not for emulsion but to thick the product and even 23 % is not enough to give high fixation and thickness for product.

@capsys like @Fekher said, the Steareth-20 and 2 are there to thicken the product. With this much, you’re looking at a very soft cream, probably even runny.

oh thank you, i didn’t know that

so if i want something more firm should add more steareth or add a thickner ?
