    Hi.
How can I prevent the aloe vera gel from going smelly? I used fresh aloe vera gel from the inner leaf which has a natural faint smell.
The finished product with aloe vera gel smelled fine but after a week in room temperature, the entire formula started to smell bad. Is there any way to prevent this?

I have looked at other formulations and many of them use different kinds of citrus scents (to just mask the smell?)

What kind of preservative can I use to prevent this smell for occurring? I don’t want to just mask the smell with fragrances.

Will potassium sorbate prevent the smell?
Will sodium bensoate prevent the smell?

    Ingredient Concentration
    water 77.7000%
    xanthangum 1.3000%
    aloe vera gel 20.0000%
    phenoxyethanol 1.0000%

Try adding some benzyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 20 & sodium hydroxide. Also carbomer to stabilise the ingredients together. You probably won’t need the xanthan gum with those added as well.

Potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate may affect the color of the foemual after several week
