  • pH Stability: Expected Range of pH Variability in O/W Lotion using TEA

I am formulating a O/W body lotion with a target pH of 5.4 using triethanolamine (TEA) as the primary pH adjusting ingredient.

What range of percentages by weight of TEA would I likely need to add to the formulation to minimize the variability in pH that may naturally occur after testing and production?

Also, what is the approximate range of +/- variability of pH I can expect after producing the lotion once I find an optimal (or close to optimal) level of TEA content in the formulation?

Any thoughts, comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
