    Hello,
I would like some advice about how to make a liquid foundation.  All my attempts so far have resulted in a gritty lotion/serum.  I am assuming the problem is the particle size of the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.  Is it possible to purchase base powders in a small enough particle size or do I need special equipment to make a commercial quality foundation?

    Thanks,

    Mel.

Typically we ask everyone to post their entire formulation along with what they’ve tried so far so we can better understand and thus, make better recommendations.

I don’t know if particle size is to blame without knowing the particle size but I’m guessing no. What are you using for thickeners/emulsifiers/dispersion/suspending agents?

you can buy very fine hydrophobically-coated makeup-grade dispersions of pigments from various companies, e.g. Kobo Products Inc; this makes the job much easier

@bill_Toge have you worked with Kobo? We have lots of supply issues with them, very long lead times, and they have provided the wrong color on more than one occasion. They are the only dispersion company I know of at this time.

@EVchem I’ve only worked with them through their UK distributor, Aston Chemicals

there are some other firms who supply dispersions (e.g. Sensient, Worlée), but none with the same variety of products as Kobo
