  • Ingredient list. Why is this Kenra formula discontinued? any alternative ?

I am posting the ingredient list for the Kenra Straightening Gelee.. it worked extremely well as a hair styling product to reduce styling time & frizz. As a hairstylist of 40 years ,I wonder (along with my clients) why such great hair products are discontinued. Is there an ingredient health issue? Bottom line is my clients still ask for this product and I have yet to find a replacement that works as well currently selling “on the market”.
    Please.. any advice appreciated.

Products are discontinued for one main reason…people don’t buy enough of it

I don’t have an alternative to recommend but look for a product that contains

PEG-4, Cyclopentasiloxane, Propylene Glycol, Dimethicone, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Phenylpropyldimethylsiloxysilicate

None of the other ingredients will have much impact on performance.

there’s nothing hazardous on that list, so it wouldn’t have been for that reason
the only practical point of contention is that  phenylpropyldimethylsiloxysilicate appears to have only one manufacturer (Momentive Performance Materials) and if they had supply/process problems, that would make the product harder to manufacture
I recall there was a worldwide silicone shortage a few years ago - it’s possible the manufacturer had trouble sourcing the material during the shortage, temporarily discontinued the product and never brought it back
the other possibility is that it was discontinued for commercial reasons, as sadly happens all too often when companies employ a lot of twitchy-fingered marketing staff desperate to ‘innovate’ and make their mark on the company

@Bill_Toge - When I was at Alberto we had a product that made about $100,000 in yearly sales. We discontinued it because this wasn’t nearly enough to justify making it and other business opportunities seemed more appealing.

Sometimes manufacturer just change the name, color and scent and call it a new product. If this new product sell better because of its story then they discontinue the previous one because they know these two are the same thing.

So you can ask the manufacturer what alternative do you have for this product. See if that alternative also has the ingredients that Perry mentioned.
