Hi, I’m trying to make a cleansing oil with just a bit of water soluble extract (less than 2%). I’m using sorbitan oleate and sesquioleate as my emulsifiers cause that’s all I can find in my country. But the water part didn’t mix properly into the oil part. What am I doing wrong? Help me please

I would like to add my formulation:

    Phase A:

    44,3% Caprylic/capric triglyceride

    10% Coco caprylate/caprate

    8% sorbeth 30 tetraoleate

    4% sorbitan sesquioleate/sorbitan oleate

    20% sunflower oil

    5% argan oil

    3% passion fruit oil

    3% jojoba oil

    0,5% tocopherol

    0,7% essential oils

    Phase B:

    1.5% water soluble extract

The amount of water soluble extract is so small (consider that extracts at most have a 1-5% concentration of the real active and the rest is just solvent) that I’d just remove it.

I agree with @ketchito - use less than 1.5% even. Try 0.1% The ingredients won’t make any difference any way and are simply claims ingredients.

Thank you so much ❤ Here’s another thing: Do I really need to add preservatives to my oil? I mean, it’s in a pump bottle and there’s only a small amount of water-soluble extract in it.

With just a tiny amount of water, you likely don’t need a preservative. I’d add one just to be safe but I doubt it is ncecssary.

As a water in oil emulsion, product is not at risk for consumer contamination but you need too ensure the just need to ensure the “water soluble extract” as is won’t grow bugs.

Also, it’s likely to fail challenge testing so don’t bother, the test is meaningless here.
