  • Deodorant Stick with Sodium Stearate and Zemea Propanediol

    Hello Everyone,
I’m trying to make a deodorant stick where I use Zemea Propanediol at 56.77%, Sodium Stearate at 10% and Water at 15%. I can’t use Propylene Glycol/Butylene Glycol in this formula due to claims.

I heated up Zemea Propanediol and Sodium Stearate to 95C and I can’t get a clear mixture… I didn’t add water as I wanted to avoid water loss. Does water should be purified? Or should I heat Zemea and water and add sodium stearate slowly with constant stirring/ heating? I’m confused about what is going wrong…

@Ying Celeste should have gone ahead and slowly added the water - and more of it - to obtain the translucent solid stick formation. That stearate-diol system requires water to solvate (“activate”) and will not work without it.
