Clearing out some emulsifiers - anyone in London want to take them off me?
Posted by helenhelen on April 15, 2022 at 10:07 pmI have collected a number of emulsifiers and co-emulsifiers over the last couple of years that I have experimented with and no longer need. I need to clear some space and it seems a shame to throw them out as they’ve come from all over the world from various online retailers. Does anyone want them for free as a batch lot for their own experiments? Preferably pickup from West London.. but I would consider sending within the UK otherwise if the cost of packing and shipping is covered… I just don’t fancy wrapping all the individual tubs and packets up to avoid damage during transit.
The materials are:

I would love to have them all! I live in the Lake District and I am happy to pay for postage. Please, can I have them?

Hi, if these are not already promised to someone else, I would be able to pick them up from West London. ????

@oksanawalker If I don’t have someone collect them, I’ll keep you in mind. Really sorry… it’s just a lot of containers and packages that I worry would leak in transit which would be disappointing for the recipient!

I didn’t keep much! I found all of these emulsifiers really easy to use and to get a good result but unfortunately my skin is sensitive to emulsifiers and fatty alcohols/acids, including when using commercial products. I’ve resorted to using separate water phases and oil phases (as serum and oil) on my body with no emulsifiers until I find an emulsifier my skin doesn’t mind . I’m going to explore silicone-based W/O emulsifiers next.
But if you are interested, I think the combination of:
Plurol Stearique MB + Montanov 202 + Behenyl Alcohol + Cutina PES + Sepinov EMT 10/Cosmedia SP (Sodium Polyacrylate)/Siligel would have made a really nice looking and feeling cream.

Hello there! I am also in west london I don’t need any of the ones you listed but maybe we can share/exchange in future:) I often buy too much and get sad when ingredients expire unused

That would be brilliant! I always end up with 500g - 1kg of something to try to hit minimum spends, to only ever use 5g. The post-Brexit €200 minimum spend on Glamour Cosmetics was a pretty painful discovery last week

Guys, I really wanted to make it a post but it won’t be appropriate I guess. I found a supplier in Thailand. They sell ingredients that are impossible to find anywhere else at DIY amounts. I already ordered from them and they delivered to London for £36 (took only 6 days). They provide all documentation and the packaging is not bad (DIY suppliers are often horrible with packaging). I am not affiliated with them in any shape or form but I always struggle with finding synthetic ingredients (I know they all are synthetic, I am referring to PEGs, Silicones and other “free-from” ingredients) and I tried them, so they are reliable.
https://myskinrecipes.com/
I know cheesy name. They don’t have MOQ, accept Paypal and deliver quickly. They have PEG-10 Dimethicone and other W/Si emulsifiers, Esters that I couldn’t find anywhere else, Hydrocarbons and silicones that I haven’t seen anywhere else (stearyl dimethicone). They have pure amodimethicone (not an emulsion but an oil-soluble). They have Isoxehadecane and even oil soluble dyes. Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip! Funnily enough, I had about 15 tabs open on my browser the last two weeks from that website of various interesting-sounding ingredients but I didn’t buy in the end as there was nothing I absolutely *needed*. I ended up on the site as they had something I was googling for that isn’t available from anywhere else… I can’t even remember what it was. But now I know it is a reputable site with fast shipping to the UK, I’ll probably buy from them in the near future.

@ngarayeva001 Thank you! I always wanted to try disodium cocoyl glutamate and could never find a US reseller.
-
@Syl I might be wrong but I think it should be similar to sodium cocoyl glutamate Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate - 250g
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FUI3MVU/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_FBVS164V6V2TY4PDEVCGI bought from mystic moments many times. They sell through amazon.co.uk too. The price on amazon.com is higher though. It’s very mild and good for face wash. It’s extremely difficult to thicken. I use it in water thin face wash made specifically for foaming pump.
-
@ngarayeva001 Thank you, I will order some. I always wanted to try to formulate a powder face wash. If it is too mild I can always add some SCI.

Thank you for diving in and mentioning it! Hopefully their US shipping is quick too. I just came across the site this week when doing a search for where someone was getting laureth-4. They have a few things I have really wanted to try but haven’t found anywhere else too!

The site seems very interesting! I’ve made a test purchase and I asked for a quotation. The prize was brutal, It was about 65 Euro fоr shipping to Bulgaria.
-
Yeah 65 is way too much. I feel like I spend more on shipments than ingredients… I guess for those who live in Europe glamourcosmetics is the best option. They significantly increased shipment prices to the UK after brexit and I feel like it’s now easier for me to buy from Thailand than Italy, which sounds like a joke.
-
@justaerin another store with a huge number of ingredients many of which are hard to find elsewhere is https://www.glamourcosmetics.it/it/
I ordered from them countless number of times (before brexit). I still buy from them but only when friends from Europe are visiting, so that they can bring the ingredients. Glamour doesn’t deliver to the US, but there’s many PO box companies in Europe too. Delivery within is around 15 euro. -

thanks for saying this @helenhelen. I started making things because of my issues with face moisturizers not working for me..i mean even the Clinique moisture surge (has AVC, c10-30, oleth 10) which i think has the lightest ingredients and oil free. At first, i thought it was fungal acne but when you mentioned this I realized its the same with me, separating serum and oil - i get no issues at all. Guess i just need to test each of my emulsifiers and thickeners see which is ok.

@mizzm Don’t feel that you have to use a “cream” on your skin. I haven’t used “creams” on my face for probably a decade. Separate serums + oils have always left my face skin looking nicer and it’s only recently that I’ve realised why. The only emulsions I use on my face are commercial SPFs. But for body skincare, creams are much easier to apply so that’s what I’ve been trying to solve for myself.

@helenhelen have you looked at Pickering emulsions? Seems like if your skin does not like emulsifiers…this might be a good one to take a look at?!
For those that have made Pickering emulsions….they appear on paper, and a brief read…to be easy to make unstable…see next comment from…hehehe… Wiki:
Properties such as hydrophobicity, shape, and size of the particle, and the electrolyte concentration of the continuous phase can have an effect on the stability of the emulsion. The particle’s contact angle to the surface of the droplet is a characteristic of the hydrophobicity particle. If the contact angle of the particle to the interface is low, the particle will be mostly wetted by the droplet and therefore will not be likely to prevent the coalescence of the droplets. Particles that are partially hydrophobic (i.e. contact angle of approximately 90°) are better stabilizers because they are partially wettable by both liquids and therefore bind better to the surface of the droplets.
Are Pickering emulsions….a viable option for the intermediate novice?
