  • Caprol Micro Express in leave-on formulations: Good or bad idea?

I got a hold of Caprol Micro Express (INCI: PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides (and) Polyglycerol-6 Dioleate (and) Glyceryl Caprylate/Caprate) so I can experiment with microemulsions. Experiments have been unsuccessful so I’ve decided to use CME as a water-based emollient for serums instead (around 2-3%). I can’t find much information other than PEG-6 caprylic/capric glycerides is a water-soluble emollient, polyglycerol-6 diolate is an emulsifier, and glyceryl caprylate/caprate is also an emollient.

I’m just a little worried about using this in leave-on formulations since it’s technically a surfactant. On one hand, I know microemulsions by definition contain high levels of surfactants, so it’s not impossible. On the other hand, my research shows its individual components are mostly used in wash-off products so that’s confirming my suspicion that CME as a whole wouldn’t be good to leave on the skin.

    Any thoughts?
