Wow…thanks for the heads up. I have no idea what’s going on, but my management needs to be informed ASAP.
-
An account I know of had their paperwork “seized as evidence.”

Following…
We used to work with this company for claims testing.

Main Article (more detail)
I was told about this by another Formulator. Her customer was contacted and simply told “their records had been seized as evidence.”
-
“The company filed in New York in June 2003 as a foreign business corporation, according to the state.” Probably tax issues.
-
The Investigation initiated in the local District Attorney’s office. FBI and FDA investigators were involved. Local DA’s don’t have authority over tax issues (US Federal) and IRS Investigators were not involved. Hence it isn’t a tax issue.

An update about AMA Labs. They and their CEO are under investigation for fraud by the FBI, FDA, IRS. They were raided twice because the CEO was not cooperating. One of their frauds was to charge companies for 50 panelists and only use 20 and create false profiles for the remaining 30. The CEO would then pocket the panelist pay for the 30 fake profiles. Doing this over many years has resulted in millions of dollars unaccounted for. Companies being duped and possible bad products being released. They were also not reporting adverse reactions to products. A grand jury has been called and charges are imminent.

Probably why they told me they were backlogged until October when I spoke to them a few months ago..
-
Update. The CEO has now filed suit against former technicians blaming them for the false testing. He said he had no idea this was going on. Which either makes him more of a criminal minded individual or a totally clueless owner. For anyone who knows Mr. Letizia knows he’s not clueless when it comes to his own business financials. Thus it seems he’s distracting from the real issue, that being he has committed fraud for over twenty years and finally was caught. My informant from the FBI says charges are soon the be presented and jail time for the CEO is imminent.

Interesting. I saw these guys at their booth at the California SCC suppliers day. Despite the investigations it looks like they are continuing to offer their services.
-
Update. Former employees are starting to speak out. The owner’s secretary who was at the SCC conference is now cooperating with the FBI.

Hi,
My name is Tony Ibrahim and I’m an Australian journalist looking into AMA Labs; specifically, how its practices could compromise the test results of sunscreen.
It’s a big problem here as Australia’s skin cancer rate is among the highest in the world. And I understand AMA runs the testing on a lot of the brands sold here.
I’d like to ask some of you a few questions in private, particularly GabeTech or Perry. Or anyone else with first-hand knowledge of what’s going on over there.
I am happy to talk to you on the condition of anonymity and will protect your identities.
Please do feel free to contact me via email: tibrahim@choice.com.au
I hope to speak to you soon,
Tony Ibrahim
