EDTA
Hi all,
I would like ask if anyone had counter the same issue. Previously, I am formulating face cleanser, the texture was moisturising enough. Unfortunately, the colour of products become decolourised over the time. Therefore, I decided to add EDTA (0.1%). Then, suddenly, I received a complaint, said that the cleanser not same a previous. His skin felt dry. So, while try to find the best solution, I would like to ask if anyone experienced the same? Does adding a bit EDTA really increase the irritation to the skin? Feel free to share your thought.

Since our products mainly tackle for sensitive skin people. so their will be more sensitive.
the formula briefly like this :
old formula
Aqua
glycerin
Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer

new formula
Aqua
EDTA 0.1%
Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer

Glycerin

For new formula, we make little change, they put glycerin in surfactant system. I suspect too if change glycerin in surfactant phase will boost up surfactant power and make the feel become drier.

What’s your pH? What’s your preservative?

our pH is 5-5.5 mostly around 5.2. we used phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin blend

@mmarr i never recived complaining from EDAT in such level .

our product for sensitive skin. maybe the customer had a very dry skin and have used the old formula. so he can detect the differences right away.

When a product with a dye loses color it is often associated with UV exposure. What is your packaging?

we are using plastic packaging. Then, the color also actually from natural colorant

A consumes once came to me saying that she liked one of the conditioners I gave her, but not the other. When I told her they were both the same formula, she was schocked, so, one consumer opinion shouldn’t force you to change your formula.
Btw, wherever you put Glycerin in a cleanser, it’ll always impair surfactants performance, especially foam.
