  • Seeking Advice on Washing Machine Liquid Formulation Issues

    Hello everyone,

I am currently formulating a washing machine liquid and have encountered some challenges based on customer feedback. I would greatly appreciate your insights and suggestions.

    Current Formula:

    • 50 L of treated water
    • 8000 g of Texapon
    • 4000 g of Tanzaryl
    • 2000 g of COD
    • 2000 g of AB45
    • 1000 g of NP9
    • 400 g of Anti-Foam agent
    • 600 g of fragrance

    Issues Reported:

    1. Performance on White Fabrics: Customers are not satisfied with the cleaning results on white clothes. They report that stains are not being effectively removed.
    2. Fragrance Longevity: The fragrance does not last after the clothes are dry, leading to disappointment among users.

Thank you in advance for your help!

What’s pH? Might need a preservative.

Do you know which kinds of soils specifically ( ex particulate vs grease vs grass/wine/tomato) or was this across the board?

Fragrance longevity could be improved by using encapsulated fragrance along with oil, but you will need to ensure your system can uniformly suspend the encapsulates either from the nature of the system or including an additional suspension aid.

I am not sure what some of your ingredients are since you only give trade names.

You could try adding a builder (sodium citrate is commonly used but other chelants can also be used)

If your market accepts them, an optical brightener would help make white fabrics appear whiter.

You could also try increasing the concentration of your surfactants.

Have a look on UL Prospector or supplier websites for starting formulations to compare with your formulation.

    Thank’s for your feedback Ozgirl,

well the ingrediants that i’m using are :
    - Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate ( Texapon)
    - Dodecylbenzene Sulfonic Acid ( Tansaryl)
    - Comperlan <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(-bb-body-text-color);”>Cocamide DEA

    - cocamidopropyl betaine ( AB45)
    - Tergitol NP9

Regarding the Optical Brightner, i can’t find it in the market, i don’t know if there any alternatives to it

    Best regards

First, what are you using to neutralize your sulfonic acid, and what’s your final pH. For these products, the higher the better.

To improve performance, increase your non ionic surfactant (although, i wouldn’t use nonylphenol, and would replace it with something like laureth-9 or laureth-7).

The optical brightener is ubiquitous. Tinopal CBS-X is a good reference, and there are many cheap versions, mainly from China.

A good chelant would also improve your performance.
