    Hi,

I am formulating body wash using EGDS as a pearlscing agent. I have some questions:

1- Should I heat this ingredient with SLES, cocamide DEA, and other nonionic and amphoteric surfactants directly without water up to 65-70°C or with water?

2- The blend of surfactant is important?

3- I want a pearly body wash not creamy. Is it possible with EGDS?

4-How to decrease the temp? By adding water or slowly?

5- I cannot use NaCL to thicken the product when using EGDS, while all the formulation excisting on the net icludes this salt as a thickener. But my product’s viscosity decreases. What should I do?

You are advised to add a good amphoteric to this, one that works also as a hydrotrope such as disodium cocoamphodiacetate. The EGDS should be added after all the surfactants are in solution and temperature is 70C or higher, then SLOWLY cool the batch once melted and dispersed. Only 1.0% EGDS is needed to get a nice pearl. Salt usually does not affect stability unless you add gobs of it, e.g.~0.50% plus.
