Deodorant stick dries slowly on skin
Hello!
This is my first time making deodorant stick with sodium stearate. I have ~ 75% propylene glycol, 8% sodium stearate, 2% decyl glucoside, 07% preservative and 3% parfum oil, the rest is water. The consistency seems fine, but after applying it on the skin, it leaves a “wet” skin feel and dries slowly on the skin. How should I improve the formula to dry faster on skin without leaving a wet film?

Reduce Propylene Glycol to 5%

Thank you! Around what percentage propylene Glycol should work better? 50-60%? Could I replace it with water or do I need something else?

Propylene glycol is not the “wet” problem, decyl glucoside is. DEL that surfactant (why add it in first place?) and fix the PG: water ratio at 2.0 to 2.5: 1, it will work fine. You don’t say which grade sodium stearate is used, but 8.0% seems high to me. Most of these start at 6.0% with little increase from there.

Thank you, Matt! I definetly try your suggestions. I think maybe decyl glucoside was the reason I needed more Sodium Stearate (because it can make the formula thinner). I’ll play around with the PG/water ratio and leave out the glucoside.
