Sodium Laureth Sulfate 70% Lot Differences

I had a question regarding SLES 70% Active and different lots giving widely different results in my final formulations (shampoos). While I know you would naturally see differences from different manufacturers of SLES, I’m seeing wide differences in final viscosity in finished formula between different lots of SLES from the same manufacturer? Is there a good way to control for this variance lot to lot and is it possible to build an Excel model based on COA Lot data to account for differences? My formulas are very basic shampoo formulations with SLES, Cocamidopropyl Betaine and NaCl thickened.

hmm are you able to get to the right viscosity by adding more or less NaCl? Normally the difference between batches should not be that dramatic but if they are you can maybe just regulate by using different amounts of salt to thicken the formulation. even if it is a pain to do that in a production.

Yeah, you are correct. We are able to add add additional NaCI to the batches with SLES Lots that have lower activity say 69%. Essentially those batches may require say 0.5% more NaCI. We are just trying to see if there is a way to account for that ahead off time and adjust before doing trial and error salt adjustments on every batch.
