micellar waters
Hello everyone. I have noticed two things in skincare products, those that can be miraculous and do something to the skin such as face serum, face scrub, face cream, essence, ampoule, toners and those products that merely do a ‘random’ job such as cleansers and makeup removers because these latter dont do anything that will change the appearence of the skin.Lets say i want to make a licellar water, we all know licellar waters are mainly made of water, surfactants.What other ingredients can be add for marketing sake?
Now in the market micellar water are super demanded so how would my mlicellar water be different from the plethora in the market already? We said micellar waters dont do anything miraculous to the skin so how can i differentiate myself from the rest?
Also since micellar atzrs are mainly made of water and surfactants how come some are expensive?
Also tghere are two types of cleansers: water based and oil based.Is a micellar water water or oil based since it also has oil?
also micellar waters are sometimes advertises as products that dont need to be rinsed off, however they do have surfactants and leaving those on the skin care hurt this latter.
I just find that the onmly bad thinhgs about micellar waters is that we need to use like 4 other cotton pads after using the micellar water to remove any residue left.So this begs the question: is it possible to have a micellar water than remove in one go? And are micellar water a first or second step in a dsouble cleansing?

Micellar waters are a new marketing name for an old application. Be advised MOST of the micellar water products on the market are not finished products but simply conveyances for botanical extracts applied as ingredients for skin care. I did not know these were being applied as facial cleansers, a poor application in my book. This rings of gimmickry. Facial cleansers are of two types. Oil based for cosmetic makeup removal, water/surfactant based for daily mild cleansing. If you needed 4 wipes to remove something in aqueous media, there’s evidence of a formulator exceeding their level of competence.

Thank you @chemicalmatt for your reply. You said that cleansers are of oil and water based.So oil based are for those that wear makeup and water based are for everyday cleansing.So if i dont wear makeup can a cleansing rich gel be used everyday on my skin?
Also is it possible to have a 2in1 micellar and toner? Also micellar waters are advertised as non rinse off products but how can this be possible when micellar waters have surfactants and its not very good to meave those on the skin as they can irritate it?

You need to determine this yourself. What is your micellar water suppose to do. Based on usage recommendations, do you recommend it as a leave on product or require rinse off? If it’s fine to leave on, you can work on the other ingredients including extracts. If it’s a rinse off product, you can just work on the pricing or other aspects.

Micellar water is normally water based unless you want to make it a biphase product.
So this begs the question: is it possible to have a micellar water than remove in one go? And are micellar water a first or second step in a dsouble cleansing?
Adding more surfactants to increase the performance would help to remove whatever you need to remove better.
Whether micellar is a first or second step in double cleansing depends on what other cleansers you are using. For example:
- Cleansing Balm -> Micellar Water
- Micellar Water -> Surfactant Cleanser

I want the micellar water to be a leave on product but i read that leaving them on the skin can be problematic because surfactants will stay on the skin and this is not good.What do you think? So if i want ti to be leave on does that mean i can add fancy ingredients to it such as hylarunocn acid and vitamic c.Also if its a leave on micellar water can it double as a toner then so pople can use it to remove makeup and to tone the skin? I know micellar waters rely on a cotton pad and this is the part i hate because when we use pads we can exert pressure on the skin.So is it possible to have a micellar water without using pads?

This is up to you. I’d prefer to rinse it off since i don’t really need to have additional surfactants and unremoved dirt on my face if i can use water to rinse it off more than what the cotton pad + micellar water can.

This is up to you but i’d recommend just market it as a micellar water or a toner, there should only be 1 main focus, as it can be confusing for some people. You can market it with “toning” ingredients if you want if people choose to not rinse it off.

You should think if cleansing would be effective without the pads. Micellar water is a watery liquid, so is your hand able to handle it well enough?

Whether it becomes a rinse off product depends on your recommendations. It depends on the function of the oil. The oil may act as a solvent for the makeup/spf or just for moisturizing purposes.

As mentioned, depending on previous comment, it depends on the other cleansing products if any.
