  • What do the letters ‘pH’ stand for?

I’ve read that ‘pH’ stands for ‘the power of hydrogen’, and I had NEVER read that in ANY chemistry text book, EVER. Is this a new definition or B.S.?

I learned the definition of ‘pH’ to be ‘negative log of the hydrogen ion concentration’.

Thanks for the link to the video. It was neat.

He DID show a chart that declared soap & shampoo to have pHs of 11, which is wrong, but otherwise, it was a good video.

As he said, terminology “pH” - “p” means the negative log value, here concentration, and “H” refers to hydrogen ion.

and pH balanced is largely BS.
