peg 12 dimethicone vs dimethicone
Posted by esthetician922 on January 10, 2022 at 10:26 pmI have a formula calling for peg 12 but can’t find it anywhere to buy from my usual suppliers. Is there a huge difference between it and regular dimethicone?

Peg 12 Dimethicone is water soluble. Dimethicone is not

What is the function of peg 12 dimethicone in that formula?
If it is as emulsifier the no you cant use dimethicone instead of it.
If it is as conditioner then yes you can use -

If the formula is clear then I wouldn’t swap them out (the dimethicone will make it hazy and possible completely separate out), but if it is like a cream or pearlized then I think either would work.

@esthetician922 You could alternatively use PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate instead, to keep the clarity of your product.

Can be replaced by peg8 dimethicone or amodimethicone

Amodimethicone isn’t watersoluble but usually comes in a format of emulsion.
