  • What gives a dry silky feeling….30 min after application.

I am working on the finishing touches of a hand cream.  There is one aspect where it falls short.  30 min after application, the product has a little drag on the back of the hand, from the crosspolymers.  It goes on fine, and since I am using primarily quick hitting oils and emollients, the main presences on the skin surface, after 30 minutes, seems to be the crosspolymers.  I am only using them at 1%…so reduction is not really an option.

I would prefer something powdery and silky, 30 minutes after application.  Is this where the silicas would finish a product like this perfectly?  I need something that remains on the surface unobtrusively and dry.

Already using behenyl alcohol, Polymethylsilsesquioxane and many other ‘powdery’ ingredients.

Maybe you should go fancy with Nylon-12.

Have you tried Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer?

Hehehe….that was the EXACT ingredient….causing the problem!

First….I am hyper sensitive to stuff…I feel everything… This goes on great….in formula…and even neat….but after 30 minutes…seems to have something residual I associate with drag.  Only occurred after this ingredient was added.

@Graillotion I think silicas would be a good idea, based previous “mattifying” lotions I’ve used. All the best ones had silica in them, though I’m not sure from which supplier.
How do you feel about kaolin? It’s also a mattifying agent. Funnily enough, certain grades of kaolin qualify as skin protectants!

A cursory glance on the net….does not appear available in small quantities.

I did request a sample on ULP.

I should get my silica tomorrow.  However I will have guests for the next week….so will not have a chance to play with it….for about 10 days. :(

Noooooo! Can you sneak a little experiment or two? Just tell them it’ll only take 25 minutes! ;)

Why can’t you down Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer to 0.5 or 0.X , is it a request from buyer?
There is silica-coated silicone powder, can’t remember the name, sorry.
