  • Difference between SLI and SLMI?

Posted by Shaine75 on April 22, 2021 at 3:22 pm

    Hi All!

I was wondering if anyone has worked with both surfactants, SLI (Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate) and SLMI (Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate) and can describe the differences? the application would be for shampoo.

I’ve been working with SLMI in solid, flake form and it works great, however it is sold by very few suppliers, and is EXTREMELY costly…

I havent worked with SLI, but based on the comparative low cost and the fact that it is still derived from coconut i think i want to give it a try.

    thoughts?

    thanks,
    Steve

SLMI is easily thickened with salt, while SLI does not thicken with salt. Probably going to need to use other secondary surfactants, probably amides

SLI may not be water soluble like SCI.
